Umoya Legacy

Terms of Use

The ground rules for reading Umoya Legacy, sending material to the letters page or classifieds board, and reusing what appears in the fortnightly paper and the weekly email digest.

These terms describe how the paper, its digest and its reader-submitted sections may be used. They do not create an account, a subscription or any paid service. Reading the paper, opening the digest or sending a listing means you accept what is set out below.

Sharing a single item

You are welcome to pass one listing or one letter on to a friend, in print or by forwarding the digest. Community groups may quote a short notice inside their own newsletter, provided it carries a line saying the item first appeared in Umoya Legacy.

Full articles and columns

Features, practical columns and obituaries are not to be republished in full, in print or online, without asking us first. Write to the editorial address below and describe where the piece would appear and how it would be credited.

What you send us

Letters, recipes, event notices and obituary notices remain the sender's own work. By sending something you confirm it is yours to share and that the details in it are accurate as far as you know. We may edit for length, spelling and clarity before it goes to print or into the digest.

Classifieds and club notices

Lift shares, craft supplies and club notices are placed in good faith. We do not check the condition of goods, the roadworthiness of a vehicle or the arrangements between readers. Any agreement made through the board is between the people involved, not with the paper.

Limits of our responsibility

Listings, letters and notices reflect the views of the people who sent them. We publish them as received and are not responsible for losses, missed meetings or disputes that follow from acting on them. Events can be moved or cancelled by the organisers without notice to us.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the paper and the digest change. The current version always sits on this page, and material sent after a change is handled under the version then in place. If a submission raises a question about reuse, we will raise it with the sender directly.

Questions about reuse or rights

For anything to do with republishing, permissions or the handling of a submission, contact the editorial desk. Include the issue date, the section and the name the item appeared under so we can find it quickly.
