A fortnightly community newspaper for South African retirees and active seniors
Most of what lands in our inbox is straightforward, but a few things come up again and again. Here is how submissions, listings and deadlines actually work at Umoya Legacy, so you know what to expect before you write.
We are a fortnightly paper with a weekly email digest, and the two run on different clocks. A club notice for the digest can go in within days of arriving. Anything meant for the printed edition has to reach us before the issue closes, which is why timing matters more than polish.
Still unsure where something belongs? The contact page is the right place to ask, and our privacy policy explains what happens to the details you send.
A few plain definitions, so nobody arrives at the wrong door. Umoya Legacy is a fortnightly paper and a weekly email digest. It is not a service desk, and the people who write for it are contributors, not caseworkers.
If something on this page is unclear, write to hello@germanyseniors.com or call +27 66 762 3470. The postal address is The Firs, 32A Cradock Avenue, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196, South Africa.
Most of what fills these pages arrives from readers. A club secretary sends the walking route for the coming Saturday. Someone posts a lift share from a retirement village to a book fair. A reader writes in about a garden that survived a dry winter on two watering cans a week. If you have something for the letters page, the events diary, the recipe swap, the classifieds board or an obituary notice, the addresses below are the ones to use. There is no booking desk and no casework here, just a place to send material and a steady fortnightly read.
Editorial decisions on what runs in print or in the weekly email digest are made issue by issue, so sending something in does not guarantee it will appear. What it does guarantee is that a contributor who lives in the area will read it.
For anything that needs a longer reply, the contact page carries the reader submission form with fields for the section you are writing to, your town or province, and whether the item should go to the next print run or the weekly digest.
